Report: Deion Sanders Preparing to Accept Colorado Head Coaching Job

According to Pete Thamel, the Jackson State head coach has been scheming his exit in order to get the head coaching job at Colorado.

A Colorado staff source said that they were not doing a good job of hiding it. It would be a big problem for Colorado if he backed out.

The Colorado job has been offered to him by the state. All signs point to him accepting it in the next 48 hours, as all the other candidates Colorado has engaged have been stalling after interviewing weeks ago.

One day before the SWAC Championship Game, the news came. The winner will play North Carolina Central University in the Celebration Bowl on December 17th.

If the deal becomes official, it will lead to a massive rebuild. The Buffaloes were the worst Power Five team in the country in the year 2022. They had a point differential of minus- 347.

Colorado isn't a sleeping giant, but it does have the infrastructure to be a perennial bowl participant and a potential threat in a new-look Pac-12 once USC and UCLA leave.

The Buffaloes are a test that could help him get a more prestigious job if he wants to.

The Hall of Fame defensive back silenced his skeptics so far, and his success with the Tigers meant he was more likely to move up to the highest level of college football. He told Jon that he was willing to listen to offers.

Jackson State hired Sanders in 2020.

He had never coached at the collegiate level while he was a defensive back. At Trinity Christian High School, he was the offensive coach.

The spring 2021 season at Jackson State was abbreviated due to the weather. The team went 11-1 in the regular season and lost to South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl.

The most important development of that year was off the field.

The No. 1 overall player in the country for the year of 2022, is committed to the program. It was a huge coup for Jackson State and showed the strength of the program. Hunter had previously committed to Florida State.

Having the best players doesn't always guarantee success, as evidenced by Jackson State's 11-0 record.

Scott Frost at Nebraska and Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M are just two of the many home-run hires that have backfired.

There's a lot that isn't known about the man.

While two-and-a-half seasons at the lowest level of college football isn't enough to make a determination about the 55 year old, he will face a number of new challenges as a coach.

The logic behind this hiring is correct.

Recruiting is the beginning of everything. Having more talent than the other team is what makes winning and losing so important.

Imagine what he could do with the resources that would be given to him with the Buffaloes if he were able to catch a big fish at Jackson State.

He is willing to get advice from coaches with more experience than him. The head coach might have flaws that need to be covered by the right staff.

The Buffaloes would get an immediate shot in the arm if they were to hire Sanders. It would be on him to keep that going.
