Jacob deGrom has signed with the Texas Rangers.

A five-year deal has been agreed to by the starting pitcher. It is worth $185 million and has a sixth-year option that could make the total deal worth $222 million.

DeGrom opted out of the final two years of his contract with the Mets in order to get a better deal.

The Mets didn't make a final offer to the starter, according to the New York Post.

After nine years with the Mets, the two-time Cy Young winner will have a new start.

deGrom had a shoulder issue that limited him to just 11 starts in his career. He added more than 100 strikeouts in a short period of time. The missed time is a problem after an elbow injury limited the starter to just 15 starts.

When he was healthy, he had a 7-2 record with a 1.08 earned run and 146 strikeouts. If he had enough time, he would be the best in baseball history.

He finished the year with a 4-2 record and 2.38 earned run average, leading the league with 104 strikeouts in just 69 appearances. After winning the award the previous two years, it was enough to finish third.

The right-handed pitcher had a 1.94 earned run average in 91 starts with a 0.88 WHIP and 12 strikeouts per nineinnings during the last two years.

It was added to deGrom's resume after he won theRookie of the Year award.

The continued production shows he can be a difference-maker for his new team at the top of the rotation.

It was the sixth year in a row that Texas didn't make the playoffs. The team should improve with the addition of a true ace, as their pitching staff ranked 12th in the American League in average.

Despite the loss of deGrom, the Yankees still have Max Scherzer under contract and the rotation should take a step back.
