The trailer for the upcoming film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" shows a scene of Harrison Ford, who is 80 years old, looking younger than he has in the past.
James Mangold, the director of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, told Empire that the actor who plays Indiana Jones got de-aged because of the use of computer-generated effects. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the last Indiana Jones film.
The opening sequence of the film features a younger Jones fighting a group of Nazis in a castle in 1944. The film goes ahead to 1969 where Ford looks like himself for the rest of the film.
Kathleen Kennedy told Empire that the goal of the tech is to make viewers feel like they are watching a classic film.
"My hope is that you just watch it and think, 'Oh my gosh, they just found footage,'" Kennedy said. 40 years ago, this was a thing.
Empire reported that the de-aging tech was used to sift through old images of a younger Ford and match them to the new footage.
