There were tears of joy at the stadium. The emotional players from the other team tried to process what had just happened to them.

It was Son Heung-min and his team mates who were overwhelmed with joy as their place in the last 16 was confirmed with a 2-1 win over Portugal.

An inconsolable Luis Suarez and Co were left in disbelief at Al Janoub Stadium after Hwang Hee-chan's injury time strike had left them one goal short of qualification.

Group H was settled in a tense manner.

South Korea players in tears after dramatic win

South Korea got their party started after the last whistle at Education City Stadium.

Thousands of fans in the stands and the players and coaches in a mass huddle on the pitch following the end of the game.

They were gathered in large groups and watching on small screens, all with their head in their hands, willing the Africans to hold out.

There was a huge amount of relief when it was over. It was obvious from the deafening roar that came from their supporters and the entire squad, that you didn't have to see it for yourself.

When the South Korea team fell behind early on or when they were trying to win the game in the second half, the fans were so excited that they kept dancing.

The dream finish they wanted was created by Son, who set up Hwang to score the final goal of the game.

Some fans were aware that they had a chance of making it to the group stage, while others were unaware. As they waited for their fate, all of them were tense.

The players stood motionless until the end of Uruguay's hopes brought an amazing explosion of emotion that will live long in the memory of anyone who watched.

Tears of agony...

Two of the World Cup's games have produced incredible drama and will be talked about for a long time.

The main focus before the game was Luis Suarez, the pantomime villain who was sent off for handling the ball on the line 12 years ago, and Asamoah Gyan missed a penalty.

There will be some comfort in the fact that they took the two teams down with them, even though they didn't win the game.

As the news of South Korea's victory over Portugal trickled in, an image of Luis was flashed up on the bench.

His misery was compounded by the fact that they failed to get a third goal which would have sent them through.

Despite being denied a late penalty by the match officials, Uruguay took out their anger on them.

Both Diego Godin and Luis Suarez may have played their last games for their country.

Diego Alonso said it was too early to discuss his future. We will discuss after we wait for hours. It's not a good idea to answer such questions.

I believed in my players. When I joined, we were seventh in the South American group, but they responded well with results and good football.

Everything we did on the way was perfect. We are out of the World Cup, that's terrible.
