Alex Jones has filed for personal bankruptcy after being sued for defamation. Jones filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in a Houston court this morning. Free Speech Systems filed for Chapter 11 protection in July.

According to today's filing, Jones has between 50 and 99 debts. The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut, which Jones claimed for years had been faked, led to a series of defamation suits that Jones lost. His assets were estimated to be between $1 million and $10 million and his liabilities between $1 billion and $10 billion.

A Texas court ordered Jones to pay $45 million to two parents of a child killed at Sandy Hook, and a Connecticut court ordered him to pay more than $1 billion in damages to other people. Jones was left on the hook for the full amount after losing a bid to reduce the Texas damages.

The worth of Free Speech Systems is estimated to be at least $130 million, according to court documents. Over the course of his legal battle, Jones has moved tens of millions of dollars, something his legal opponents have accused him of trying to hide.

Sandy Hook families were harassed for years after Jones claimed that they faked their children's deaths. Jones behaved unrepentant during both the Texas and Connecticut trials. While Jones admitted during the trial that he now believes the Sandy Hook shooting happened, he claimed in testimony to be "done saying I'msorry" and held an impromptu press conference on the courthouse steps. He admitted that he might be in financial trouble.
