The school announced that Tom Herman was the new head football coach.

Willie Taggart was fired last month after he went 4-7. In his first season, Taggart reached the Montgomery Bowl, but in his second and third seasons, he lost in the first and second rounds of the playoffs.

"There are already great young men on this team, great facilities, a great location, a great recruiting base and great leadership, all of which are important to building a successful program," Herman said.

Herman has a track record of success on the offensive side of the ball. He has amassed a career record of 54-22 and has five bowl victories, four of which came at Texas.

The Longhorns went 10-4 in his best season in Austin, finishing second in the Big 12 and beating Georgia in the Sugar bowl. Herman was an assistant to Urban Meyer at Ohio State and helped lead the program to the inaugural College Football Playoff national championship.

The year the Buckeyes were ninth in total offense, they averaged 44.8 points and Herman won the Broyles Award, which is given to the nation's top assistant coach.

The more we talked with Herman, the more I realized that he was the right person to lead our football program. He cares about the young people in his program because of his knowledge of the game. He knows how to win and we believe he can do great things at FAU.
