Jay-Z Offered Bacardi $1.5 Billion for Ownership of D'Usse, Got Rejected

Jay-Z tried to buy full ownership of D'Usse, but was turned down because he was willing to spend over a billion dollars.

The story was broken by the gossip website. Jay is attempting to get the company to buy him out of their partnership in the luxury cognac line. According to new documents, it was Jay who tried to buy out the company.

This is strange months before his offer. According to Jay, he and Bacardi had an exchange of valuations. Jay thought his half of D'Usse was worth more than $2 billion, while Bacardi thought it was worth less than $500 million.

According to the docs, Jay went back to the drawing board in December and offered to buy out his partner for 1.5 billion dollars, which is 3 times what the company said it was worth. I think it's a sweet deal.

Since it rejected the offer, Jay-Z thinks there's something going on here.

Jay accuses Bacardi of trying to influence a third party that was called in to evaluate the brand. It's not clear what number the appraiser came up with, but it's likely to be closer to Jay-Z's value.

Both parties went through with the settlement of the sale after Jay asked the court to modify the result of the arbitration. Jay-Z is willing to part ways with D'Usse in order to not get cheated on the price.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday in NYC.
