Even as France objected to some elements of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, the U.S. president and his French counterpart stressed the importance of the nations' alliance.

After meeting for more than two hours, the two leaders held a joint press conference. The first state dinner of the president of France will be held in the U.S. The leaders were concerned about Russia bombing civilian infrastructure as winter approaches.

Biden said that it was critical that the US support the Ukrainians. There is no way that Putin is going to defeat Ukraine.

"We've been resisting for a couple of years and now we've been able to engage with you." He said he was grateful for the U.S.'s support.

It's important that the U.S. supports the Ukrainians, not just for the Ukrainians, but for the Europeans as well. The stability of our world is thanks to you. There is no stability in this world if we abandon the country and abandon its principles.

Ahead of the bilateral meeting, Macron expressed frustration over how the inflation reduction act would affect Europe's economy.

At a luncheon on Wednesday, he criticized the law. European leaders worry that the tax incentives will drive companies from Europe to the U.S. to make climate-friendly technology.

After their meeting, he said he would return to Europe with a clear idea of what needed to be done.

To ask for proof of love is not what we're here for. We came to an agreement to clarify what was needed and we did it. It is a good thing that I am going home confident and clear about what needs to be done in Europe.

Even if Biden wasn't intending to harm allies with the legislation, it still affects France. He said the two countries needed to harmonize their policies.

There is no domino effect on the ongoing projects in Europe. We don't want to be against the other.

Biden said the two discussed practical steps to coordinate and align their approaches to strengthen the supply chain, manufacturing and innovation on both sides of the Atlantic. Each leader asked their team to do this.

Biden said "I'm confident" when asked how he felt about his discussion withMacron. My answer is that.

Policies by the Biden administration have upset the French government before. France temporarily withdrew its ambassador to the U.S. after Biden brokered a submarine deal with Australia. The leaders agreed to repair their relationship after Biden said the mishandled situation wasclumsy.
