Andy Jassy argued that the platform has to allow customers access to a wide range of viewpoints even if they are objectionable.
During a live interview at the New York Times Dealbook Summit, Jassy said to serve hundreds of millions of customers with a lot of different viewpoints, even if they are objectionable.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, Jassy made comments about the film Wake Up Black America, which features antisemitic troupes about Jewish power.
After Irving brought more attention to it, the ADL called on Amazon to remove the film from its store.
Jassy, who is Jewish, said that Amazon takes down inappropriate content that is more straightforward.
Jassy said that customers do a good job of monitoring other people on the platform.
Irving was suspended from the Brooklyn Nets for eight games in October after sharing a link to a book on Amazon. Despite calls to remove the film and book from Amazon, they are still selling them. Barnes and Noble stopped selling the book. The Anti-Defamation League found a 34% increase in hate crimes against Jewish people in the United States last year. In recent months, West has come under fire for making antisemitic comments, prompting some brands to cut ties with him.
The Nets lifted the suspension of Irving after he apologized for his antisemitic remark.
