According to leaked internal polling data commissioned by the Kremlin, support for the war in Ukraine has plummeted within Russia.

According to a survey conducted by Russia's Federal Protective Service, more than half of Russians want peace talks with Ukraine. According to Meduza's reporting, this is a huge change from an FSO poll in July that found just 32% of Russians favored talks. The polling, which Meduza said was designated by the Kremlin for internal use only, showed a major drop in support for the war between Russians between July and November.

According to Meduza, FSO's polling didn't change much from the data from the Levada Center, which found that a majority of Russians support negotiations with Ukraine. Only 27% of Levada's respondents supported continuing the war.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been devastating to the Russian military and has seen Moscow isolated both economically and politically, but publicly criticize the war that the Kremlin insists is just a "special military operation" could land Russians behind bars.

In less than a year, Russia is estimated to have suffered 100,000 casualties in the war. Many men fled the country after Putin ordered a partial mobilize to address the Russian military's manpower problems. The Mobilization has not gone as planned.

The sanctions were imposed by the US and its allies. The Russian economy fell into a recession in November.

According to a recent assessment from the New York Times, the majority of Russia's territory has been regained by the Ukrainians.
