According to Platformer, the delay of the Blue subscription service is due to Musk's plan to circumvent Apple's 30% fee for in-app purchases.
The blue check mark was going to be available for $7.99 per month on November 29th. An increase in the number of fake accounts that gained the blue verified mark marred the launch of the service on Apple's platform. It was placed on hold.
Gold and grey verified ticks were supposed to be introduced on the platform. The gold check marks are used for companies, grey for government officials and blue for individuals who pay for the service.
There was no sign of the new Blue subscription. According to Platformer, the service won't be offered as an in-app purchase once it's relaunched. A product manager at the company said in a message that they will make changes to Blue before they resume the service. Requiring users to verify their phone numbers is one of the changes.
Early access to new features and fewer ads will be available to subscribers of the blue check mark. Apple's App Store cut for every in-app purchase is something that is unclear. Musk criticized the tech giant's policy earlier this week, saying it undermined free speech.
