The Canoo electric pickup truck was delivered to the US Army. The Light Tactical Vehicle is built on the same platform as Canoo's Duplo toy-looking EV prototype truck.
The army awarded Canoo a $67,500 contract back in July to produce a new light to heavy duty battery electric vehicle or series- hybrid electric wheeled vehicle.
Canoo was founded by two former employees of Faraday Future and has developed several EV concepts. NASA chose the company to build a lifestyle vehicle that would transport astronauts to the launchpad as part of the Artemis mission to the Moon.
The LTV can be turned into many different configurations.
The LTV can be transformed into a variety of configurations, including a flatbed truck, cargo-carrying vehicle, or mounted with rack, ramps, storage boxes, tents, or tactical systems. The LTV is made for extreme environments and includes stealth configurations.
Tony Aquila, chairman and CEO of Canoo, said in a statement that the LTV proves the power of their technology and how it can be used in tactical situations. This is a winning formula for us.
The all-wheel drive vehicle can put out 600hp, with air springs, a raised suspension, and 32 inch all-terrain tires.
Canoo needs the army's approval to put the LTV into production. The company needs a lucrative military contract in order to survive. Canoo warned earlier this year that it could soon run out of funds if it wasn't able to find new investors. The company's stock price is $1 a share.
Canoo was founded in late 2017. The executives who co-founded Canoo, which was then called Evelozcity, were sued by the company for allegedly stealing trade secrets, though the lawsuit was settled late in the year.
The Canoo pickup truck is one of the EV's in the works. The toyish truck showed how far Canoo is willing to go in order to push the design of the microbus-style vehicle it first unveiled back in 2019.
The Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating the company's merger with a special purpose acquisition company and the company filed a lawsuit to recover profits made by a significant investor with ties to China. According to a report from Fortune, Canoo has late payments and missing parts.
