The doctor who provided an abortion to a rape victim who had to travel from Ohio will not be stopped until he is punished by the attorney general.

The Indiana medical licensing board is being asked to Discipline Bernard for violating the law by telling a reporter that she would be treating the child in Indiana. According to the complaint, Bernard didn't report the abuse to the authorities. He is trying to punish her for giving the child an abortion, not for violating the law. She publicly discussed a case in which abortion was clearly a net good and necessary to protect the girl's life.

Kathleen DeLaney said the move was a last-ditch effort to intimidate Dr. Bernard. She went on to say, "Though I am disappointed he has put my client in this position, we are not surprised given Mr. Rokita's consistent efforts to use his office to seek to punish those with whom he disagrees."

At a hearing last week, Bernard testified about whether or not Rokita could access the 10-year-old boy's medical records. The consumer complaint investigation stems from people who aren't Bernard's patients. People who had never met Dr. Bernard were the ones who filed the consumer complaints. They are complaining about something they heard or saw on television.

Bernard maintained at the hearing that she simply stated the facts of the case and did not reveal anything else. The patient had been raped by another person. She said that a 10-year-old became pregnant by that.

The licensing board, which determines if a doctor is allowed to practice in the state, is a new tactic in campaigns against abortion providers.
