The Lincoln Police Department said that Mickey Joseph was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of strangulation and third degree domestic assault.
The police department said officers were dispatched to a residence. Joseph was arrested at a different location and taken to the Lancaster County Jail.
On Wednesday, Joseph was put on administrative leave.
Scott Frost was fired as Nebraska's coach on Sept. 11 after less than a year on the job. Matt Rhule was hired as Nebraska's new head coach on Saturday after the Cornhuskers went 3-6 under his predecessor, Joseph.
Rhule credited the Nebraska staff for how they finished the season. If someone else is named the team's permanent coach, Joseph will return to his role as wide receiver coach, passing game coach and associate head coach. If not retained, Joseph would owe his original buyout.
Joseph worked for LSU for five years. He was the head coach at the time.
