Thai temple left without monks after they all test positive for meth

Every single monk at the temple failed a drug test and the temple is now without monks.

There was testing at the temple on Monday. The Abbot of the holy site tested positive for meth.

The men were sent to a health clinic to begin drug rehabilitation after being stripped of their monkhoods.

Local community members who depended on the monks for religious functions were concerned about the scandal. There are about 10 dogs and cats living in the temple.

A female employee was fired for accusing her supervisor of rape.

More monks will be sent to the temple by the district's monastic chief, according to reports. When and how many will be deployed is not known.

Thailand has been cracking down on illegal narcotics. The United Nations says that the country is a major transit point for meth coming from the country.

At least 36 children and teachers were killed in October when a police officer who had been dismissed for meth possession opened fire. The news received condemnation from around the world.
