Another sign of how the company is changing under CEO David Zaslav is that Warner Bros. Discovery is partnering with Amazon Studios to create new animated projects.
The Warner Bros. Television Studios chairwoman opened up about some of the new moves the company plans to make as part of Zaslav's vision for its future One of the reasons why she was excited for her division was the openness of Zaslav to collaborating with outside production outfits. The old guard felt like "everything has to stay in-house; we don't want anything to go outside", whereas Zaslav has been more interested in getting the studio's content onto platforms it doesn't.
David Zaslav has been more willing to explore all of our animated intellectual property and be able to do it on different platforms. We are in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon that is going to feature some of our DC- branded content in animation and we are certainly going to be our first stop.
Earlier this month, Zaslav made very clear his desire to double down on existing intellectual property, like Superman, as a result of the big Amazon deal. The studio is currently having a number of different conversations about returning to the world of Harry Potter in order to cash in on the franchise's still-extant popularity.
There is a lot of interest and a lot of passion for it, so absolutely, I wish I could tell you that, but there is a lot of interest and a lot of passion for it. We did a quiz show, The Tournament of Houses, that Helen Mirren was the host for, after we did a Return to Hogwarts special for Hbo. The audience is ready to leave and we need to figure out what to do next.
It makes sense that the studio is outsourcing some of its work in light of the recent layoffs. It makes it seem like Zaslav is trying to stick to his guns by going back to the well while Warner Bros. Discovery tries to figure out how to keep Harry Potter relevant.
