Ja'Marr Chase said that he didn't play last weekend for precautionary reasons.

In his first public comments since suffering a hip injury, Chase said he didn't want to play in Sunday's victory at Tennessee because he didn't feel comfortable coming back from the injury that early.

If I had a chance to, I would give myself another week of preparation.

According to Chase, he feels great and has no pain as the Bengals start practicing for their upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

During Cincinnati's Week 6 victory at New Orleans, Chase hyperextended his right leg on a touchdown run, he said. He played the rest of the game and scored the game winning touchdown.

He told the training staff that he had trouble moving. He felt better by the end of the week and was able to play in Cincinnati's victory over the Atlanta Falcons. He had eight catches for 130 yards and two touchdown in that game.

Chase sought a second opinion and was told he had a hip injury.

Chase said that he got the second opinion from the Falcon game.

Chase is expected to have a light practice workload for the second week in a row because of the injury. In the week leading up to the game, he was limited in each of the practices.

He decided to wait an extra week to come back because of his career outlook.

Chase said that the staff and trainers were on the same page with him about handling everything appropriately, and that he didn't know if that was too early, too fast.

When he is eligible for a contract extension in four years, Chase will have set two franchise records in his first season in the league.

It was difficult to say if Chase would be a full participant for any practice.

Taylor said they would do their best to make him feel comfortable.
