The courtroom in Washington County, Tennessee, erupted in applause after the Commissioners rejected the proposal to build a mining plant.

The county of Limestone, Tennessee has been trying to get Red Dog Technologies to shut down because they have been operating a 25-megawattBitcoin mine there. There is a lot of opposition to a proposal to build a replacement mining operation in an industrial park.

The proposal was struck down by a 13-2 vote on Monday, after the local council quickly formed a committee to fight it.

The plans to build a noisy mining plant in the backyard proved to be unpopular with the residents.

Emily Curran spoke at a recent public comment period, telling an audience of more than 100 people that Commissioners should "stand up for my family, my children and all those who would be affected by a Bitcoin mining operation near the school."

The reports stated that her comments were met with applause and cheers.

Craig Ponder, a pastor who lives near the existing mining site, told the channel that people in New Salem andLimestone are united in their opposition to the practice.

Noise and Pollution

A huge amount of noise can be generated by the process of mining th e digital currency.

The revival of dying coal plants has caused huge amounts of carbon dioxide emissions.

The settlement will be decided by a jury in court. News Channel 11 says it's not certain if Red Dog will be allowed to keep operating its plant while the lawsuit is ongoing.

After months of good faith negotiations, a resolution was not reached. There will be no further comment from Red Dog Technologies and GRIID Infrastructure.

Washington County rejected the settlement in the suit over the Bitcoins.
