Iran's hopes of progressing to the knockout stage were shattered by the United States' win on Tuesday.

Despite the Iranian regime's oppressive nature, protests have steadily broken out since September when 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died three days after being arrested for violating the Islamic dress code.

General rights of the country's citizens were included in the protests. According to a human rights organization, over 400 people have been killed in protests.

According to reports, Samak was laid to rest on Wednesday. The funeral service is the subject of a video posted by the British Broadcasting Corp. The mourners yelled, "You are the filthy, you are the immoral, I am a free woman," during the unrest.

The players are caught in between the government and the citizens in a tense situation.

There are fears that players and people close to them could be in danger as the team returns home.
