A number of conservatives gave a thumbs up after the United States Senate voted to protect same-sex marriage. There were 12 Republican senators who voted in favor of the bill. The leader of the minority was not among them. The House of Representatives passed a bill that protects gay marriage, but the Senate added a provision that religious organizations wouldn't have to allow gay marriage. The change will be approved by the House. It will go to Biden's desk for signature after the House approves the change. Biden said recently. Americans should be allowed to marry the person they love. Same-sex marriage is not a mandate created by the bill. Gay marriages performed in other states must be recognized by every state. If 2 gay people got married in California and moved to Alabama, they would have the same rights as a straight couple. The time has run out. The fate of the bill is dicey because Republicans will control the house in the new year. There is a chance that the Supreme Court will decide that marriage should be left to the states and not the federal government.
