On December 15th, Sony will release a software development kit that will link motion capture data with 3D development software. The press release announcing the tech suggests that it could be used to develop new services within the fitness industries, and we can see it being utilized by game developers and visual effects artists who don't have the budget for professional-grade motion capture equipment.
The press release does not specify if the system can be connected to a PC or a virtual reality headset. Users who need that feature will need to use a Leap Motion tracker or a virtual reality controller. This system is completely free of base stations or wires, so it could be a popular alternative to expensive motion-capture suits.
The retail price of Mocopi is about $360 and it will be released in January of 2020. We will have a chance to see it in action before it is released on December 3rd.
