Anyone who wanted to purchase a blue tick badges will have to wait a bit longer. It's probably a good idea to assume that it won't arrive until you see the option to sign up.
Two weeks ago, CEO Musk had announced that the subscription service would be back on Tuesday. The social media platform is trying to find a way to avoid the 30 percent fee Apple charges for in-app purchases.
The howling rush of wind over thousands of desks was caused by Musk's firing spree.
It was an unpleasant shock to Musk that Apple's fee was a secret 30% tax. Despite Musk's complaint, Apple's 30 percent fee has been public knowledge for over 14 years, the company's then-CEO Steve Jobs having literally announced it onstage at an iPhone event in 2008. Smaller developers that earn less than $1 million per year get a reduced fee from Apple.
Now that Musk is aware of Apple's fee, the social network is trying to circumvent it by refusing to sell the Blue subscription as in-app purchases on the platform. If you want to sign up for Twitter Blue, you'll have to use other methods, such as the website.
Apple changed its rules last year after a class-action lawsuit caused it to do so.
There will be a one-cent increase in the price of the service if and when it returns. Users will be required to verify their phone number in order to sign up, which is likely an effort to curb the rampant impersonation that has plagued the site since Musk took over.
Advertisers fled the platform in droves because of Musk's rapid changes to it. Even though many of the billionaire's decisions have been disastrous, he seems determined to enforce his questionable ideas about how to run the social networking site.
