World Cup 2022: Gareth Bale vows to continue playing for Wales

After Wales' elimination from the World Cup, Bale said he will keep playing for Wales as long as he's wanted.

Bale says he will return for international duty when Robert Page's side begins Euro 2024 qualification in March.

We have a few months to get away from international football, which is disappointing, we would love to have stayed longer at the World Cup, but we go again in March.

Bale had been rumored to retire after this World Cup, the first for Wales in more than 50 years.

Page's team left the tournament with a feeling that they have not done themselves justice after only taking one point from three games.

Bale, the nation's most-capped male player, is one of a number of senior figures in the Wales squad, but he rejected the suggestion that the end of this World Cup campaign could prompt a period of transition.

Bale said that the tournament doesn't mean the end of an era.

We are excited for March. We are excited to see what happens.

The group is still together. We have a great group of people and we will go again.

Bale was taken out of the game at half-time. He said after the game that it would have been "selfish" to stay on because he couldn't sprint because of the tightness in his leg.

Having recovered from a poor first-half performance to draw their World Cup opener against the USA, Wales were beaten by Iran before England defeated them.

We are upset. We would have liked to play better. Bale said they wish they could have done better.

We need to realize that we have come a long way in our qualification for the World Cup.

We are all disappointed, but the one thing we can all take solace in is that we gave everything we had on the field.

Even though the performances and results weren't there, we all worked hard and were proud of where we are.

We have to learn from our mistakes and hopefully we can qualify for the Euros in March.

Wales failed to make the knockout stages for the first time in their four major tournament appearances.

The effort they put in without the ball was exceptional.

I won't have a bad word for that group of players, even though we could have been a little bit better with the ball. Today they gave everything.

Don't be upset, that's my message. Now is the time for us to build for the future. The group of players have made it to the World Cup.
