NASA has a plan to decommission the International Space Station by 2031. It's not clear how to achieve that goal.
The problem is here. Nobody knows what that presence would look like, who would run it, and how it would make money. Blue Origin's Shahir Gerges, director of business strategy for Orbital Reef, will join us for a discussion on the complex questions that are why we are excited.
Engineers and astronauts need to be involved in the discussion of these issues. Far-sighted business leaders will be needed to see where the market is going. They need to build a compelling case for how a long-term space station can pay for itself over the course of a decade.
How much will it cost to build a commercial space economy? What should the world expect from private operators of the space station?
In a session called "Space Station Shake-up," Gerges, an expert in the realm of commercial space stations, will speak.
Shahir Gerges is the Director of Business Strategy for Orbital Reef. Orbital Reef is intended to be a space station that can be used for commerce, research and tourism. Gerges developed offerings to cultivate growth in new and emerging markets that would benefit from the on-orbit environment.
Prior to joining Blue Origin, Gerges worked as a strategy consultant at the accounting firm, where he advised industrial companies on market strategy decisions, internal operations strategy and multiple- deal due diligence. Gerges worked in various engineering and strategy roles at United Launch Alliance.
Gerges is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology and Georgetown University with two degrees.
