The world's most influential golfer Tiger Woods called for the removal of LIV Golf's CEO Greg Norman on Tuesday, as PGA Tour loyalists pin the blame on Norman for the ongoing civil war splintering the sport.
When asked how the PGA Tour and its new rival, LIV, could exist side-by-side, Woods said, "Greg's got to leave."
Woods called the upstart circuit financed by Saudi Arabia's wealth fund "an endless pit of money" at the press conference.
Woods called for a stay on the antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour and the countersuit by the tour to give them time to figure out what went wrong.
When contacted by Forbes, LIV wouldn't comment on Woods' comments.
Norman, known as "The Shark" during his playing days for his menacing style on the course, has been similarly aggressive as LIV's leader, throwing billions of dollars of the Saudi Public Investment Fund's money at dozens of the world's top golf players. Norman made less-than-diplomatic comments about the spat and argued that players for the rival tour should be thanking LIV for introducing more competition. Among the converts are Phil Mickelson, who trails only Woods and Smith in career earnings on the PGA Tour.
I think I'm the piata to a degree. In July, Norman spoke to Forbes.
About a billion dollars. Norman told Fox News in August that LIV offered Woods a lot of money to leave thePGA Tour.
Saudi Arabia is considering a joint bid for the World Cup with Egypt and Greece, according to the country's tourism minister. The World Cup is being held in a wealthy Middle Eastern nation with a human rights record that has been criticized for using athletics to improve its reputation.
Donald Trump is in the business of the new Saudi golf league.
The golfer said that Greg Norman needs to go for LIV.
