Less than three months after being promoted to the position, AMC Networks Chief Executive Christina Spade resigned.

The cable TV network said in a regulatory filing Tuesday that Spade will receive her severance payment in accordance with her August employment agreement.

A company spokeswoman wouldn't give more information. The shares of AMC Networks were down before the market opened.

The board of AMC is making a decision on the replacement for Spade.

The chairman of the company wished Christina well in her future endeavors and thanked her for her contributions to the company. Madison Square Garden Entertainment is owned by the Dolan family.

A few months after joining AMC Networks as CFO, Spade was promoted to COO and CFO. She took over as CEO less than a year later.

The interim CEO at AMC Networks was replaced by a veteran industry leader.

After a 26 year run that saw the network transform into a hitmaker with series such as "Mad Men" and "The Walking Dead," Blank took over in 2021.

AMC Networks has been seen as an acquisition target in the past. AMC+ and Shudder are two of the niche streaming services that it has.

CNBC previously reported that NBCUniversal's Peacock has approached smaller streaming services to bundle their content.
