Phil Foden will be in the England starting line-up for the World Cup opener against Wales.

With qualification for the last 16 still not assured, England's coach is expected to make changes to the team that drew with the US on Friday.

The media didn't like Foden's absence during the stalemate, but he will get his chance in the game against Wales.

Walker was out of the final few weeks of Manchester City's domestic season due to a groin injury, so he was not at the World Cup.

He will play for the first time since October 2 against Wales after being fit enough for a place on the bench.

Henderson was introduced from the bench against the USA to replace Jude Bellingham, but it now appears both players will start in a three-pronged attack.

After scoring in the opening win over Iran, he came on in the second half of that draw. He had not made a single appearance for his country since the Euro 2020 final before the start of the tournament.

All of England's changes are expected, meaning that captain Harry Kane will retain his place despite questions over his fitness. The holder of the Golden Boot is yet to score.

Rob Dorsett is in the Middle East.

He doesn't often make that many changes. England want to go and win this game after what was a pretty lackluster display against the USA.

Gary Neville has been calling for Foden to start and he doesn't know why he hasn't been included.

"Gareth said he has no problem with Foden and thinks he's a fantastic player who he has predicted to have a big part to play in the tournament, something he will have the chance to do tonight."

Marcus Rashford, who's come off the bench in both of the opening two games and looked very sharp, the kind of form that has seen him score eight goals for Manchester United already this season.

The way England is looking at this is that Foden and Rashford are fresh and will make a big difference in the game. They're both pacy and both have the ability to find space between the lines.

When he came on against the USA, he was quite organised in the way he brought things together and will now get a chance from the start.

How England will qualify for the round of 16 on Tuesday

After the first two rounds of matches, England are top of the group with four points, followed by Iran, Wales and the USA.

Wales will need to beat England on Tuesday to have a chance of progressing from the group, but the team will progress if they win. If USA vs Iran ends in a stalemate, a draw will suffice to top the group.

England will be certain of reaching the last 16 if they don't lose to Wales by four goals. A loss by Wales will leave England vulnerable to progressing as runners-up and a potential last-16 tie against the Netherlands.

How Wales, Iran and the USA can still qualify

A Wales win over England and an Iran-USA draw would see Wales progress, but a four- goal defeat or greater is the only scenario in which England do not progress. The USA will have to beat Iran in order to get to the last 16 if Wales does not win.

The third tie-breaking method at this tournament is head-to-head record.

As it stands: England's potential opponents in the round of 16

If England were to win Group B, their round-of-16 tie would be held at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor, on December 4th, and they would face the runners-up in Group A.

Group A winners would be England's first opponents in the knockout phase if they failed to win the group.

The Netherlands are currently top of Group A with four points and will play host to already-eliminated Qatar in their final match. The second place team in the group will play the third place team in their last game.

But would England be better off progressing as runners-up?

If England were to progress as group winners, they would face France in the quarter-finals on December 10, if the World Cup winners beat Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico or Poland.

England could be drawn with Poland or Australia in the quarter-finals if they beat Group A a week earlier.

If England win their group and progress to the semi-finals, they will face either Belgium or Portugal in the World Cup final.

After finishing second in the group stages, England could face either Spain or Brazil in the last four.
