A group of researchers in Canada say they have found two new minerals after analyzing a piece of a meteorite.

Local camel herders say that the meteorite known as Nightfall was well known to them and they named it after it.

The rock was found near the town of El Ali in the Hiiraan region. A 70 gram slice of the iron-based meteorite was sent to the University ofAlberta.

The curator of the collection, a professor in the department of earth and atmospheric sciences, noticed unusual minerals while he was cataloging the rock. The head of the university's electron microprobe lab was asked to investigate by Herd.

He said that he had at least two new minerals in there. It was amazing. It takes more than that to say there is a new mineral.

Similar minerals had been synthetically created in a lab in the 1980s, but never recorded as appearing in nature, and may have as yet unknown real-world uses. There are at least three potentially new minerals being analysed.

I didn't think I'd be involved in describing new minerals just because I worked on a meteorite. There are two minerals that are new to science in this meteorite. They were named after the location of the meteorite and the principle investigator of the Psyche mission.

Lindy has done a lot of work on the formation of planets and iron meteorites. It was a good idea to name a mineral after her.

There are reports that a sample from the same meteorite has been removed to China. International markets sell meteorites.
