Toure will be in charge of Wigan for three and a half years.

He held talks with the Championship side earlier this month and has now completed his move to the DW Stadium.

During his playing career, Toure worked under some of the biggest names in the game, but he has never been a manager.

Kevin Betsy and Rob Kelly will be his assistants. The club has lost a member.

Toure will join his new players in Turkey for a mid-season training camp before they play Millwall on December 10.

Wigan had been looking for a new head coach since November 10, just a fortnight after they gave him a new three-year deal.

After selecting Toure as his successor, Wigan chief executive Malachy Brannigan said, "We are delighted that he has become the new manager of Wigan Athletic and the board are happy that he is the man to take us forward."

In the last few weeks we received a lot of applicants for the manager's job and we were looking to find the right person for the position.

"From the beginning, it was obvious to us that he had bought into the values of the club, with his enthusiasm, knowledge and immense desire to work and be part of Wigan Athletic shining throughout the process"

The appointment is exciting for the football club. The manager is trying to make the club stronger by playing a positive brand of football.
