The nation's average price for a gallon of gas fell to the lowest level in more than a year, while the most common price at US pumps fell to a new low.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said on Monday that the most common price at the 150,000 gas stations the company tracks was $3.29.
The average price in the US is $3.51 a gallon, which is still the lowest since February.
The cheapest prices are found in the South and Midwest, with Texas leading the way with a statewide average of $2.82 a gallon.
In Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, the average price for a gallon of gas is less than $3.
The average price for a gallon of gas in Hawaii is $5.15. California has an average price of $4.95 a gallon, which is less than the $6 a gallon price that was seen in the summer.
It's possible the national average price of gasoline could fall under $3 per gallon by Christmas, which would be a huge gift to unwrap for motorists, according to a Monday analysis.
One of the most obvious signs of the country's rampant inflation was the surge in gas prices during the spring and summer. The price spike was caused by a number of factors, including the Russian invasion, a refusal by OPEC to increase production, and a diminishing U.S. refining capacity. A decrease in fuel demand is the main reason for the drop. Americans pre- filling their tanks before Thanksgiving contributed to the decline in demand last week.
