According to a report from CNBC, Bob Iger joked that his wife told him to return as the CEO of Disney so that he wouldn't run for president.
CNBC reported that Iger made the comment during the town hall meeting. He quoted a song from the musical, "Hamilton," to start the meeting.
Status quo is no longer in place. Sources who attended the town hall told CNBC that Iger's quote was true.
Disney didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment and confirmation of Iger's reported comments.
Disney surprised the business world last week by announcing that Robert Iger would be taking over as CEO less than three years after Bob Chapek left the company. After a board member reached out to Iger, the decision to bring him back was made.
Iger is interested in running for president. Iger said that he had considered running for office multiple times when he stepped down as Disney CEO. Iger said that his wife stopped the idea from happening.
Iger said Bay told him that he couldn't run for anything but his wife.
At the Disney town hall on Monday, Iger said the company would keep its hiring freeze in place. The publication reported that the CEO called any talk of Apple acquiring Disney pure speculation.
