According to a source, the Astros are in agreement on a three-year contract with first baseman Jose Abreu.

He had played all nine of his big league seasons after defecting from Cuba, and he hit.302/.372/.446 for Chicago this year.

Over the final three-quarters of the season, he was one of the best hitters in baseball, batting.335/.408/.479, though his 15 home runs were his lowest in a season. The Astros lineup includes Yordan lvarez, Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, and Jeremy Pea.

Yuli Gurriel has been a nemesis of the Cuban National Series. Yoenis Cespedes was considered to be the best hitter from Cuba, but his power was the separator.

He was given a three years and $50 million extension by the White Socks. He hit.292/.354/.509 with 243 home runs and an adjusted OPS of 34% better than the league average.

He is the second signing this winter for the Astros, who re-upped relief pitcher Rafael Montero on a three-year, $34.5 million contract. The Astros' projected payroll is currently in the $175 million range -- they've exceeded $187 million each of the previous five seasons -- and they still hope to sign ace Justin Verlander.

USA Today reported that he had a deal with the Astros.
