The US national team used a modified version of the Iranian flag in their social media posts.

The US decided against using the official flag of Iran in their social media posts to show support for the women in Iran who are fighting for their rights.

The death in custody of a woman who was accused of violating the strict rules around head coverings sparked the protests in Iran.

The US Soccer spokesman said that the posts had been removed and replaced with ones with the correct Iran flag.

We didn't know what US Soccer had to say. We had no idea who the people were. We're focused on this match and I don't want to sound like we're not paying attention.

The thoughts are with the Iranian people and everyone. We are only thinking about this match.

The United States and Iran both know they will go through to the World Cup last 16 with a win, but will be eliminated if they don't. The US would be knocked out and Iran would have to rely on Wales.

Both teams went out in the group at the 1998 World Cup, but Iran won the game 2-1.
