The final edition of the Big Ten Challenge will be the last one for college basketball fans.

The creation of theACC/SEC Challenge for men's and women's basketball began on Monday. The Big Ten Challenge has been running for 23 years and will be replaced by the new event.

There are other things ending as a result of this news.

The final SEC/Big 12 Challenge will be held in January. There was a challenge between the two conferences on the women's side over the course of three years.

The Big Ten agreed to a new media rights deal with CBS, Fox, NBC, NBCUniversal, and the Big Ten Network. The deal is worth more than seven billion dollars, but it didn't include the sports network.

The Big Ten's football and basketball games are broadcasted by the network.

What will be a marquee event every college basketball season will be the new challenge between the SEC and the Atlantic Coast Conference, which will air on the sports network.

Look for powerhouse programs such as North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke and Virginia to square off in games that will carry some weight into Selection Sunday as teams across different leagues compete for favorable seeding.

Minnesota and Virginia Tech will play on Monday in the final game of the Big Ten Challenge. Duke will play Ohio State, Notre Dame will play Michigan State, and North Carolina will play Indiana.

The last women's Big Ten Challenge starts on Wednesday with a game between Illinois and Pittsburgh. There are ranked- against-ranked meetings between North Carolina and Indiana, Maryland and Notre Dame, North Carolina State and Iowa.
