Should I sign up for a new card before making a large donation?

Credit card sign up bonuses are easy to earn.

Does the charity get my full donation?

Merchants and charities pay fees on credit card charges.

The fee for most cards and merchants is between 2% and 4%. The charity will only get $960 to $980 of your donation if the bank charges card processing fees.

If you want a set amount to reach your charity of choice, you may want to cover the credit card charges. If you use a debit card, check or cash, you won't get any rewards for donating.
