There is no doubt that Apple makes some great products, and if you are an Apple fan or have one in your life, then you will probably be looking for a new Apple product this year.

Not everything Apple has on the market right now is a good buying choice. If you decide to use your credit card or click that buy button, you should consider a few things.

iPad (10th Gen, 2022)

The standard iPad was updated to match the more premium iPad Air and iPad Pro. This wasn't quite the refresh that people were hoping for.

It isn't a replacement for the entry-level iPad, as evidenced by the fact that Apple is still selling last year's model at the same price. The new iPad will cost you almost half the price of the better iPad Air.

The second- generation Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard are not supported by the iPad. The new Magic Keyboard Folio is specifically designed for the iPad. The Magic Keyboard Folio doesn't work with the iPad Air or iPad Pro, so it's a purchase that locks you into the lower end model. The first-generation Apple Pencil requires a more complicated charging process for the new iPad than it does for the old one.

The iPad is in an odd spot in Apple's lineup. It is definitely a niche product. The iPad is still available, even though it doesn't have the shiny new design of this year's model, and it's $120 cheaper, making it the iPad of choice for those on a budget. For only $150 more than the iPad, you can get the iPad Air with Apple's M1 chip, support for the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard, and a fully laminated anti-reflective display.

iPhone 12

For those looking for more affordable options, Apple usually keeps two years of prior-generation iPhones on the market, moving them down to lower price points. The 2020 iPhone 12 moved down to the bottom tier after the launch of the iPhone 14.

It sounds like it's a good deal. It is a difficult sell when you look closer. The base model of the phone only has 64 gigabytes of storage. That isn't much in today's world of 4K video recording If you want to upgrade to a 128GB version, you will have to pay $749.

The starting price of the base model of the iPhone 13 is only $50 more than the starting price of the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 mini starts at the same price as the iPhone 12 if you want to downsize. A faster A15 chip, improved cameras, and better battery life can be found in the iPhone 13

You can get a 128 gigabyte model for $479 or a 512 gigabyte model for $579. It is still a great option if you are looking for the cheapest option.

AirPods 2

It is important to keep in mind that the second-generation AirPods are still four years away from being on the market. When the iPhone 11 was still being sold, these were the newest AirPods.

The AirPods 2 are an aging product that will likely be put out to pasture because Apple doesn't release new ones every year. There is a good chance that we will see the fourth iteration of the AirPods by the year 2020.

The core technology of the AirPods 2 and 3 is the same as the core technology of the AirPods 3 The improved sound quality of the AirPods 3 is due in part to features like Spatial Audio that were previously exclusive to the pricier AirPods Pro and AirPods Max lineups. The same custom drivers, amplifier, and microphones are used in this.

An extra hour of listening time is offered by the latest AirPods. Six hours of power is added when you pair the charging case with the phone. Unless you are on a tight budget or are looking for a bargain basement deal on the AirPods 2, you are better off spending $50 more on the latest version of the device.

35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter

When the M2 MacBook Air was released earlier this year, it was accompanied by Apple's first multi-port plug, the dual-usb-c port power adapter. Standard and compact versions have the same charging specifications.

The 35W speed is not for you. This is the total power output of the two ports. 35W is shared between the two devices if you charge more than one.

This is made worse by Apple's adapter doing this in a specific way. There isn't a lot of intelligent power management here, it splits the power output evenly, and each device gets a charging speed of 17 watt. It is well below the fastest charging speeds for Apple products.

If you only want to charge an Apple Watch or a set of AirPods, these only draw 7.5W of power, so you don't need to worry. Considering the $59 asking price for Apple's dual-port adapter, you can do better with third-party alternatives.

Apple Pencil (first-generation)

You won't be able to use the second-generation Apple Pencil for the iPad Air and iPad Pro if you're still using an older iPad. You don't necessarily want to settle for Apple's first- generation stylus.

It is unclear if future iPad models will support this. If you upgrade to any of Apple's higher-end tablets, you'll need to replace it. It is difficult to say if Apple will use the first-generation Apple Pencil with next year's model.

The Apple Pencil isn't the only option if you don't have a high-end iPad or a stylus. The most significant omission is pressure sensitive, which will be a deal-breaker for artists, but the Logitech Crayon is an active stylus that is more affordable than the Apple Pencil and offers many of the same capabilities.

The Crayon is more durable and won't roll around on you. There is a male Lightning port under the cap that you can use to plug in your standard Lightning cable. You can make sure it doesn't consume power when not in use by using an off switch. There is compatibility across the entire iPad lineup, from the sixth- generation iPad to the latest M2 iPad Pro.
