Police removed Beckham Jr. from the American Airlines flight after he failed to follow instructions from the flight crew who were concerned about his health.
The star wide receiver who is a free agent was sitting on the American Airlines 1128 flight from Miami to Los Angeles.
American Airlines stated in an email that the flight returned to the gate after a passenger failed to follow crew member instructions and refused to fastened their seatbelt.
The flight crew was concerned about Beckham's health as he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness just before the plane's departure and feared his condition would get worse as the flight went on.
Beckham refused to leave the plane when asked to do so by the crew, but after it was emptied of all passengers, he left the plane without incident.
Beckham said that he had never experienced something like that in his life.
Beckham fell asleep with his blanket over his head because the flight was delayed and he was used to it. He woke up and was told that he needed to get off the plane because he didn't put his seatbelt on. Beckham told the attendant he would put his seatbelt on, but was told it was too late. Sleeping on a plane shouldn't be a reason for removal from a flight, according to the statement.
Police escorted Beckham off the plane.
