The man in charge of the platform said that the verification system would be back on December 2. It will be vastly different than before.

The gold check mark will be given to companies starting on Friday, while the gray check mark will be given to the government. The traditional blue mark will be given to people who pay for the service.

Musk said that all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check-in, though how exactly this will be done has not been revealed. The decision to manually process accounts was painful.

Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.

Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.

Painful, but necessary.

When Musk took ownership of the company at the end of October, he immediately raised the monthly fee of the platform's premium tier from $5 to $8 in order to make more money. Before, the blue check mark was only awarded after a verification process, but Musk changed it so that the fee also got you a blue check mark, whether or not you were a prominent figure, business, or organization.

The platform was confused as many imitators paid a fee to get a blue "verification" mark and then used a fake account to post.

The verification system and sign-ups were put on hold as a result of the situation.

It's not clear whether the new badges will end the verification saga.

Mass staff layoffs, along with a controversial move to restore banned accounts as part of an amnesty on the platform, have made for a turbulent month at the micro-blogging site.

Despite the situation, Musk said over the weekend that signups are at an all time high, with an average of over 2 million per day.
