I am a fan of the National Football League, my beloved New York Giants and travel and I just read a CNN story about a football player who was removed from a plane at an airport because he refused to comply with safety rules.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero tweeted a copy of the police statement, which read: “At approximately 9:30 a.m., officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department were dispatched to a medical emergency at an American Airlines flight. The flight crew was concerned for a passenger (Mr. Odell Beckham), as they tried to wake him to fasten his seat belt, he appeared to be in and out of consciousness, prior to their departure. Fearing that Mr. Beckham was seriously ill, that his condition would worsen through the expected 5 hour flight, the attendants called for police and fire rescue. Upon the officers arrival, the flight crew asked Mr. Beckham several times to exit the aircraft, which he refused. The aircraft was deplaned, at which time Mr. Beckham was asked by the officers to exit the plane, and did so without incident. Mr. Beckham was escorted to the non-secure area of the terminal by the officers where he made other arrangements.”

Ian Rapoport said that Beckham boarded a morning flight without any issues. After boarding, the flight was delayed. Mr Beckham used to sleep with his blanket over his head. He was told that he needed to leave the plane because he didn't put his seatbelt on. He said he would put his seatbelt on when he woke up. He was told that if he didn't get off the plane he would have to deplane.

The overzealous flight attendant insisted on removing everyone from the plane instead of allowing Mr Beckham tofasten his seatbelt and go with the flight. Mr Beckham was not aggressive or disruptive. The flight attendant wanted to show that he had the authority to remove Mr Beckham from the flight, even though he was willing to comply with the seatbelt requirement. The luggage was sent to LA without Mr Beckham.

It was not necessary. Sleeping on a plane shouldn't be a reason for a flight to be delayed. They could have woken him up and asked him to put on his seatbelt when the plane came back to the gate.

I agree with the lawyer that it was unnecessary but I wasn't there. The flight was delayed even more as all of the passengers had to get off the plane. A passenger who goes by the name TheMalibuArtist posted a video of Odell being escorted off the plane with the caption: "Forcing us off the plane because you were unresponsive and unruly is not comedy to the hundreds of people trying to get home." He is not cool.

Thanks to my status as an elite member of American Airlines, I was often upgraded to Business Class, which has the plush lie-flat seats, on many flights. If you are flying up front, be aware that lie-flat seats in Business Class aren't always available on MIA-LAX flights.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has 30 flat bed seats with 60 to 61 inches of pitch and 77 to 78 inches of length.

When there is a delay, it is normal for passengers to recline their seats, but when it is time to push back or take off, seats need to be upright. It is questionable if the flight attendant was overzealous or if he was so tired he didn't wake up.

It doesn't matter who you are, you have to obey the cabin crew's rules, especially the captain's who has the most authority and will almost always back his/ her flight attendants

According to FlightAware.com (screenshot above), the flight landed 2 hours 6 minutes late. Beckham wasn’t on it and no charges have been filed.
