The Broncos defensive tackle got in the face of Wilson after picking up a penalty. There is a time and a place.
In a season in which the only thing the Denver Broncos can consistently do is raise their own frustration level with one loss after another, a brief sideline blow up between defensive tackle Mike Purcell and quarterback Russell Wilson was caught on camera Sunday.
The Broncos lost their eighth game of the season. The team's seventh loss in the past eight games had taken a toll and both players were quick to dismiss the incident.
"I was frustrated.'' Purcell said of the situation. We all want to make a difference. All of us are in this. The quarterback is going to take the field. The defense needed to get a spark somewhere. They are about to take the field.
With 13 minutes left in the game, Purcell was flagged for an unnecessary roughness penalty during a field goal attempt by Pineiro. He was yelling at Wilson as he went to the sideline.
"I had just gotten a penalty on a field goal block, and I was frustrated for everything.'' We didn't do our job on defense and we were frustrated.
Wilson and Mike are on the same page. I agree that he came off after they kicked the field goal. There is no animosity on the part of us.
We need to win." We have to come out here and have a sense of humor. We have to win these games. We have to be able to take advantage of those guys who are out there fighting every play. There isn't anything there, me and him, at all.
Over the last two months, the Broncos players have been asked if there is a growing rift in the locker room because of the team's offense. The Broncos have scored 16 or fewer points nine times this season, the fourth time they've scored 10 or fewer points.
Some of the Broncos' defensive leaders were quick to point out that there was a lot of blame to go around after they surrendered a 100 yard rushing performance in each of the past two games.
