Michael van Gerwen
Victory has earned Michael van Gerwen the £100,000 top prize

Michael van Gerwen defeated Rob Cross in the finals to win his seventh title.

The only nine-dart finish in the tournament's history was thrown by the Dutch player.

The victory over England's Cross was the 150th title for Van Gerwen.

He said he was here to win tournaments.

It gives me a lot of energy when I produce something special in a final like this.

In the semi-finals, Van Gerwen beat England's Humphries 11-5, winning eight of the last 10 legs and averaging 101.59.

He won five televised titles in a row, including the World Grand Prix and the World Matchplay.

Cross said that it was Michael's night. Mike was amazing.

It could have been different if I had found my feet and found a few 180s.

The final major tournament before the World Darts Championship is the Players Championship.

The last time Van Gerwen won the title was in 2019.

People have to play well in order to beat me. They can't beat me if I play my game.

I have to show what I can, even if it's Gerwyn Price or Peter Wright. I did my thing this year, I've won a lot of tournaments, and now I have to show it at the world championship. It's what it is.
