In the Jets' win over the Bears, White racked up 300 yards and three scores. There is a time and a place for it.
In the final piece of advice to his new starting quarterback, the New York Jets coach told Mike White to be himself and not to worry about doing something extraordinary in his season debut.
"We did not need to turn into the greatest show on turf," he said.
White's performance in the Jets' 31-10 victory over the Chicago Bears was worthy of the turn-of- the-century St. Louis Rams.
White completed his first five attempts and never lost his rhythm after taking over as the third quarterback. It was one of the best passing performances in franchise history when he completed 22 of 28 passes and connected with 10 different people.
It was a much-needed spark for the Jets, who had a tense week that included a dismal offensive performance in a last-second loss to New England and the benching of Wilson. The crowd was chanting at the end of the day. The man is Mike White.
White heard his name in the stadium. I'm not going to give you a quarterback cliché that I'm not focusing on, but there are times I'm not.

White was called the master of the obvious by Saleh.
He said he intended to get Wilson back on the field this season. As long as the Jets are in the thick of the playoffs, it will be hard to do that.
C.J. Mosley said that White was electric.
"Helluva game," Brown said. He was in charge of the offense. Big plays were made at some critical times. It was great to have great composure. It was a great day for him.
White completed passes to 10 of the 11 skill players that were active for the game. Moore, a non-factor with Wilson at quarterback, had two catches for 64 yards and his first touchdown.
After the game, Moore was so happy that he requested a trade.
Moore said he was grateful to be the person who he knew he was and contribute to a winning game.
Moore said before the game that he missed the ball. I told the ball that I already knew how I felt about it. I told her that I was going to kiss her soon. She wanted to come back to me.
Wilson caught five passes for 95 yards and two touchdown He criticized the offense after the loss.
"There are some things I probably shouldn't have said, but I'm emotional and we weren't playing up to our standards," he said. I hold myself responsible when that happens. I just wanted to see a change.
Wilson's refusal to accept accountability after throwing for a career-low 77 yards caused some players to complain. White responded quickly and firmly after it increased the pressure.
The Jets scored their first touchdown of the season on their opening drive. It was a good way to relax.

It felt like we took the pressure off our defense.
The stadium began to chant White's name. White is the king of New York according to Tyler Conklin. He said it was a dream to be in the NFL and hear the chant of your name.
