According to Federal Election Commission records, Musk gave $2,000 to the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2003 but also donated the same amount to the Democrats.

In 2007, Musk gave $25,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee, but he also gave $2,300 to Obama in July and $4,600 to Clinton in February.

Musk gave $35,800 to the Obama Victory Fund for the former president's re- election bid and also donated $30,800 to the DNC.

Musk stepped down from the immigration advocacy group Fwd.us after it ran ads in favor of Republicans who opposed immigration reform, but he said it shouldn't be done at the expense of other causes.

The Republican National Committee received a series of donations less than $500 from Musk last year.

In a series of Truth Social posts where he also derided Musk's companies, Musk said that Trump should hang.

Musk urged Americans to vote for Republicans in order to balance power in Washington between Democrats and Republicans.
