It will go down as one of the greatest moments in Canadian football.

The country's star player Alphonso Davies leaped high into the sky to meet Tajon Buchanan's perfect cross and head to become the first man to score for the Maple Leafs at a World Cup.

The North American side's fans were in raptures inside the stadium when the opener against Croatia was played.

The boss said it was a proud moment for the fans in the stadium and people back home. We need to celebrate something that has been waiting for us.

Croatia did not read the script when they hit back to win 4-1 and end Canada's hopes in the tournament.

'He's incredible, Canada's Gareth Bale'

The man who scored Canada's first World Cup goal in their fifth game will always be remembered as the one who missed 50 tries.

The 22-year-old has experienced a rapid rise due to his incredible resilience.

Davies was born in a refugee camp in Africa in 2000 and his parents moved to Canada when he was five years old.

He is now playing for one of Europe's biggest sides after the club paid a record amount to sign him from the Whitecaps.

Alphonso Davies' goal for Canada was the quickest so far in the 2022 World Cup

Alphonso Davies' pace is amazing. He travels quickly when he gets the ball. He plays centre-forward for Canada. They think of him as their player.

Davies is an amazing player. Canada needs a couple of him on the pitch.

Canada has four years to find more Davies' caliber players before they co- host the tournament with the USA and Mexico.

Young Canadians who have grown up in Canada have shown they can compete.

The players can see that they are in the right place.

Davies might feel a sense of guilt. Even though he scored the fastest goal of the World Cup so far against Croatia, his missed penalty against Belgium in the opener cost Canada the game.

They hope to end their campaign on a high by facing off against Morocco next week.
