It is often a callback that the MCU provides. It's possible that the greatest callback of the whole enterprise is bringing in Kevin bacon as himself. The Friday the 13th and Footloose actor is well-known to his alien companions due to the fact that Star-Lord is enamored with him.
He told IGN that he didn't know he'd be in the film until he saw it. He said it was a very strange experience. He jumped at the chance to be in the MCU nearly a decade after he first heard about it. I didn't read the whole thing. I said that it sounded great.
You might not know that the first thing Disney+ was going to make was a special for the Guardians of the universe. There was a firing and rehiring of the director from the movie. It took time to get this project off the ground after he jumped to DC. When he first signed on to the project, he wasn't sure if he'd actually be playing himself.
The actor was more involved in the project after he was told he would be singing. "Gunn referenced all the tunes, so I immediately made myself a playlists just to feel the vibe of the whole thing and listen to it a lot." He did a rock-and-roll version of the Old 97s in the special. It has a nice combination of sweet and sentimental, without being a Christmas movie. I liked it and it rocks.
He is a powerhouse and has a great voice and a great eye. He said that his experience with the director and the rest of the crew was like an office Christmas party where everyone had a good time.
