After Justin Fields separated his left, non-throwing shoulder in Atlanta against the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday and was declared inactive for Chicago's game against the New York Jets, veteran QBTrevor Siemian was in line to start his first game since Week 12 of the 2020 season.
The Bears promoted Nathan Peterman from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday and will serve as the backup to him.
Peterman will be starting for the first time since Week 9 of the season when he was with the Bills.
He hasn't thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2020 when he was with the Las Vegas Raiders.
David Montgomery is an emergency option for the Bears with a diminished depth chart at quarterback.
"We have an extra green dot in our back pocket," Getsy said.
