In the third round of the FA Cup, Boreham Wood beat Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Wood dominated the game with two goals by Will Evans and David Stephens.

In the days leading up to the game, members of the squad were unwell and the hosts failed to score in the first half.

Although Joey Barton's team looked marginally better after the break, it was not until the 82nd minute that Nathan Ashmore made his first save of note, denying substitute Harvey Saunders, as they suffered their second defeat in 13 games.

After an early Ryan Loft overhead kick flew wide of the Wood goal, Rovers looked subdued and short of ideas in the opening half.

In the 16th minute, there was applause for Gas defender Nick Anderton, who is currently out of action due to bone cancer.

They fell behind when George Broadbent's shot went in off of Evans after Zak Brunt cut a corner back to him.

It was almost two when Broadbent headed a Brunt cross against the upright but it was ruled out for an obstruction.

The visitors did not have to wait long for their second, though, as they got their second after Femi Ilensanmi's chip.

Belshaw did well to save a low drive by Coxe which was heading for the bottom corner and was relieved to reach half time only two down after failing to produce a shot on target themselves.

Barton made four changes at the break, but his team did show greater energy, but Josh Coburn cleared the bar from a ball in.

Wood were content to protect their lead and Sam Finley's speculative shot was the best they could muster in the first five minutes.

The next game for them is away to Bolton on Friday, followed by a trip to Eastleigh the next day.

James Connolly spoke to the radio station.

It was flat out there. The goals were from two set pieces.

They were going to come with set-pieces, that's what we said in the week. They could have hurt us by that.

We weren't strong enough and we made a few bad decisions. We were expecting them to sit behind the ball.

It was just an off day and we won't change anything. Everybody has them.

The manager of the wood.

I couldn't be more proud of my players, many of whom helped us reach the fifth round of the FA Cup.

To be in the third round again is unbelievable, but to achieve what we did in the first place was amazing.

I would have taken a draw but the players delivered and I'm happy.

It's a great achievement to have beaten a team at home.
