According to sources, Wisconsin is trying to get Fickell to be their next head coach. The Badgers are trying to get Fickell in the next 48 hours.

Last season, Fickell led Cincinnati to the College Football Playoff and has been there for six years. The first Group of 5 team to reach the College Football Playoff was the 2021.

Fickell has strong ties to the Big Ten as he was an assistant at Ohio State for many years. As Cincinnati rose to the top of the Group of 5, he was picky about jobs in the Midwest.

Fickell would replace Paul Chryst, who was fired in the middle of the season after leading the team to a 67-26 record. Jim Leonhard was considered a candidate for the head-coaching job after he was replaced by him.

Fickell's ability to build a program is one of the reasons he is attractive to the Badgers. Cincinnati was turned into one of the best development programs in the country by Fickell.

Nine of Fickell's players were drafted by the NFL last year, which was third behind Georgia and LSU.

Fickell was an interim coach in the Big Ten in the year after Jim Tressel was fired at Ohio State. He worked for Urban Meyer as the Ohio State's defensive coach and won a national title.
