Iran's national flag is being displayed on social media by the U.S. Soccer Federation without the emblem of the Islamic Republic.
The federation said in a statement on Sunday that it decided to forgo the official flag on social media accounts in order to show support for the women in Iran.

Iran's mission to the UN did not respond to a request for comment. Tasnim news agency said that the U.S. federation was moving the symbol of Allah from the Iranian flag.
The Islamic Republic emblem has curves with a sword between them. The Islamic says there is no god but God. It resembles a flower.
The date on the Persian calendar when the Islamic Revolution took hold is marked by 22 inscriptions on the top and bottom of the flag.
At the World Cup, the flag has become a point of debate. Pro-government supporters waved it and shouted at those protesting over Amini's death. The lion and sun flag of Iran is waved by others at matches.
Iran played Wales at their last match. Anti-riot police in Tehran waved the Iranian flag after the Wales win.
