The decision by Murray to leave her job changed her life.

The 48-year-old New Yorker works full time selling clothes, shoes, and bags on the Poshmark platform.

It's not all roses.

She said that the decision to leave her job forever changed her life. The Poshmark life is hard. According to documents viewed by Insider, she made $23,000 last year and is on track to make a similar amount in four years.

The work of shopping, sanitizing, photographing, listing, packaging, and shipping could make it feel like a "24/7 job" according to her. She does everything by herself and usually works at least 12 hours a day.

Murray says the extra income has made a big difference for her family.

This isn't a game for me. She says that it has helped her put her two children through college. This is very serious for me, and it helps my husband a lot. It's nice to be able to take a few vacations, but this helps pay my bills.

Millions of Americans have found ways to make money outside of work. One in 10 US workers think their workplace culture is toxic, according to research by the MIT. Workers who feel that way have different ways of escaping. Workers in the US filed over 5 million new business applications.

The Upwork study estimated that 59 million Americans had worked as a result of their free time over the previous year. College has been dropped for apprenticeship programs.

Murray has embraced Poshmark to start his own business.

She loves the 'thrill of the hunt' to find inventory

Murray quit her previous job four times, but always came back because she needed the money. She became a single mom in 2006 and began working two more jobs, including as a bank teller, to support her children.

She was only working one resale job by the end of the year. When she created her account on Poshmark, she only sold a few items at a time. I believe I can do this on my own.

Having dual incomes was important to her and she decided to quit her job and focus on Poshmark full time.

I told my husband that we would be in a bad financial position for a couple of years. She says you need to leave that environment.

She said there was no turning back once she committed.

She says that her profit margin is roughly 60% because she spends very little on inventory. There was a profit of between $9,000 and $28,000 over the course of two years.

She said it took her some time to figure out which items sold best, the cheapest places to get them, and how to develop a returning customer base.

The thrill of finding something is such a rush. She says it's amazing.

She was almost having a heart attack after she found a rare sequin shirt in a bin. An employee told Murray that she could keep it if she wanted. She says she sold the shirt for more than 3000 dollars.

It's up to you to make that decision. She wants to know if you want to be a brand or a garage-sale seller. It could also determine how much money you make in the end.

She says her items are always below retail price, but she doesn't do a lot of online price comparisons because she trusts her gut on what to sell them for.
